The existing bridge was a 55’ x 20’ concrete girder bridge with timber abutments which spanned Chicken Creek. The bridge was structurally deficient and had a highly restrictive load posting due to its deteriorated state. The project consisted of a new Iowa DOT standard Twin 12’ x 9’ Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert. In order to serve the residences on this dead-end road, it was imperative to maintain at least one lane of traffic during construction. Therefore, approximately 825 lineal feet of approach grading was completed to shift the road alignment and the culvert was built in stages.
